Tuesday 8th February 2000 : Two new signings

Cambridge United made two new signings this afternoon. 18-year-old youth team striker Daniel Chillingworth signed his first professional contract and committed himself to the club until the end of May 2002, while goalkeeper Jimmy Glass has signed a monthly contract.

A local lad from Somersham, Daniel has been with the club since he left West Ham at the age of 13 and since then he has represented the F.A. at schoolboy level and attended regional England trials at Lilleshall. Last season he scored 20 goals for the youth team, and he has already played for the reserves and been on the first team bench this season, making his senior debut as a substitute in the AWS tie against Barnet last month.

Daniel ChillingworthHe was set to make his league debut from the bench against Luton in November, but the opportunity evaporated when the visitors scored and he had to wait a few weeks longer.

"Roy told me and Adam Tann to get ready, we were going on and I was standing on the side waiting when Luton scored and Roy changed his mind, so that was unfortunate," said Chillingworth in the matchday programme.

As a Tottenham fan he revealed he is delighted to be responsible for cleaning the boots of former Spurs favourite Clive Wilson, and he said, "Players like Clive Wilson are great to learn from. He is a good professional and a nice bloke. You can tell he has played at the highest level.

"That is the good thing about Cambridge. I am learning all the time from players with experience like Clive. It helps me along and hopefully will help me get more chances in the future, which I have no intention of wasting."

Today's other signing is goalkeeper Jimmy Glass who has been training with the squad for a couple of weeks and was on non-contract terms. The 26-year-old former Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Swindon 'keeper is best known for scoring the goal that kept Carlisle in the League last season during a loan spell, and he has signed a monthly contract which commences tomorrow.
