| Friday 17th December 1999 : 'Ise' goes on transfer list |

Out of favour goalkeeper Arjan Van Heusden has been transfer-listed this week at his own request.
United boss Roy McFarland told the Cambridge Evening News, "Ise (Van Heusden) wants first-team football, but at the moment Shaun is deservedly holding down the place so it was agreed he should go on the transfer list. His contract runs out at the end of this season, and we would allow him to move providing we get cover for Shaun." Van Heusden was unlucky with two separate hand injuries last season and his absences allowed Marshall to step out of the shadows. In the first half of the season the Fakenham-born youngster stepped in for important matches like the Worthington Cup match at Nottingham Forest, and after a spell out of the side he returned after Van Heusden's second injury and played throughout the promotion run in at the end of last season. He put in several excellent performances that saw him narrowly pipped by Andy Duncan for the U's Net 'Young Player of the Season' award. Talking to me for a Q&A in July, McFarland commented about Marshall, "I see with him getting more confident and getting better, he's a very level-headed lad, he's got both feet very firmly set on the ground, he knows he's not the finished article yet, but without doubt he will give Ise a good run for his money and it's great competition." Earlier this season Van Heusden was single-handedly responsible for keeping several scorelines respectable as the defence floundered, and in September he was voted U's Net's Player of the Month. |
