A Gillingham FC web site carries a quote from Roy McFarland about striker Trevor Benjamin who has been linked with the Kent club for several weeks.

They quote the U's manager saying, "Gillingham put in an offer for Trevor which did not meet our value. Brentford are also interested while a Premier League club have asked to be kept informed of the situation."

The report adds that McFarland refused to reveal the size of the Gillingham bid but speculates that it is in the region of £300,000. They say United value Benjamin at nearer £500,000 and suggest that the Gills may now improve their offer for the 20-year-old.
