It's the end of an era in the Abbey Stadium kit room as Roger Parker, the Kit Manager since July 1992, has retired. A tremendous servant to the Club over the past seven years, he has been a great character to have around the club and he will certainly be a very hard act to follow. Roy McFarland led the tributes, saying, "Roger did a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes for this football club and there is no doubt that he will be missed. He was an institution. He always ensured that all the staff and players were looked after so that everything was there for them and they didn't have to worry. He'd been doing the job so long that he knew exactly what needed to be done and it all ran like clockwork. "I would like to keep Roger involved in some capacity and he is always welcome to travel with us on the coach to away games as he is a popular character to have around." Club secretary Andrew Pincher commented, "One of my fondest memories of Roger is when he was recounting a tale of when the coaching staff on the bench at the Stevenage F.A. Cup game were constantly being told to sit down by stewards and police. Roger's reply cannot be printed in the programme, but how anyone within earshot could have been able to keep a straight face I'll never know! "The players and all the staff think the world of Roger and we wish him a happy retirement." |
