  Wednesday 12th April 2000 : New Youth Development appointment

Cambridge United today announced that current Wisbech Town manager Darren Bloodworth is to join the club at the end of the season in a coaching capacity within the renowned Youth Development Scheme.

Ricky MartinOne of Darren's major responsibilities will be to establish and recruit players to the CUFC Advanced Centre in Kings Lynn. Darren is well known and highly regarded in that area having previously worked for Norwich City and currently living in Kings Lynn. In addition to this role he will also work alongside the Youth Development Officer Ricky Martin in a coaching capacity within the Centre of Excellence, enabling him to keep in touch with the youngsters he recruits.

Ricky Martin (right) is relishing the opportunity of involving Darren within what is already a highly-regarded set-up and he said, "The Youth Development Scheme is a vital aspect of Cambridge United Football Club. In our endeavours to develop the most promising youngsters it is crucial that I surround myself with top quality coaching staff. Darren certainly fits into this category and his involvement will further strengthen our coaching team."

Darren Bloodworth commented, "Although I have enjoyed myself at Wisbech, especially the coaching and helping the players' development, when a professional club of Cambridge United's standing offers you an opportunity like this it's got to be seen as a great career move which I am really looking forward to."
