Friday 7th April 2000 : Early team news

Roy McFarland has the luxury of choosing from nearly a full squad for tomorrow's visit of Bristol Rovers. The match is vital to both clubs for different reasons, with United in search of points to secure Division Two football next season and Rovers in the chase for automatic promotion to Division One.

McFarland can welcome back Tom Youngs - the U's Net player of the month for March - while skipper Paul Wanless, defender Scott Eustace and goalkeeper Shaun Marshall are also available for selection. Despite playing the full 90 minutes against Bury on Tuesday night, John Taylor is likely to start against his old club tomorrow, and will be partnered by Trevor Benjamin - who has scored a goal in each of his last seven games - despite the manager's criticism of his second half performance on Tuesday.

Wanless described the atmosphere after the first sending-off on Tuesday as "hostile" and "evil" which probably explains McFarland's decision not to thrown one of his inexperienced strikers into the fray instead of Taylor, but the 98-goal veteran may struggle to complete his second game in a week.

Rovers arrive looking to get their promotion campaign back on track after some recent upsets on their travels and a shock home defeat by Reading in midweek.
