The Abbey Rabbit's match report:
God I'm so depressed I've come into work! If we are going to have any
serious promotion credentials this was the type of game we should have won.
United never really got going and should have been a goal down after only a couple of minutes - Craddock did a pirouette instead of clearing the ball and Barrett was forced into a sharp save. The first half was dire - indeed United scored from their only real chance of the half - a long cross was missed by everyone and Billy bundled it home.
Second half, Doncaster were more fired up and were allowed back into the game thanks to some stuoid pussy-footing around on the edge of United's box - how many times did Hayes think he was a world beater only to be closed down and lose possesion? With the U's looking "lack-lustre" (c. Randall Butt) Doncaster got back into the game via a penalty which looked pretty blatent although the U's questioned it!
Doncaster had the momentum and although United tried to raise their game ("oh well lads, I think we'd better try now") it was all a bit half-hearted, although Hayes and Craddock both went close.
In the end Donny got the winner at the death and they deserved it. United were the better footballing side - but the home side won because they had more commitment, passion, desire and fight - we hadn't and didn't deserve anything...
No man of the match for United. Hyde was anonymous, Beall drifted in and out of the game and Hayes and Preece were just awful! Kyd flagged badly and Barnwell was deprived of support...
If United had put half as much effort into the match as they did into applauding the amber army at the end of the match then we'd have won...
We need a striker and quick (and not scum reject Lee Power)!
With grateful thanks to Steve Jillings at the Abbey Rabbit fanzine for the match report.
